Milan to Rome bus and train

To arrive to Milan from Rome and vice versa it is possible to use both a bus and a train.

  • Bus

1. Baltour, the bus company of Italy offers connections between Rome and Milan and vice versa every day. Buses run 6 times per day. Tickets can be bought online on the official website of Baltour or in the ticket offices of the company. Tickets cost from 15 EUR. Average journey time is 8 hours. There are both direct and indirect buses from Rome to Milan.

In Rome buses leave and arrive to Tiburtina, whilst in Milan – train station/metro station Rogoredo – LATO ANAS (Rogoredo is a metro station of the metro line M3) or to the bus station  LAMPUGNANO (Lampugnano is a metro station of the metro line M1).

05.00 a.m. Metro Rogoredo or Lampugnano – 13.00 Tiburtina (direct)

07.30 a.m. Metro Rogoredo or Lampugnano – 17.20 Tiburtina (1 change in Bologna)

13.00  only Metro Rogoredo – 22.45 Tiburtina (1 change in SIENA)

13.00 only Metro Rogoredo – 21.10 Tiburtina (1 change in SIENA)

2. Flixbus also connects Milan and Rome every day. Buses run 12 times per day. Tickets can be bought online on the official website of Flixbus. Tickets cost from 15,50 EUR. Average journey time is 9 hours. There are only direct buses.

In Rome  buses arrive and leave from Tiburtina, whilst in Milan – from the train station/metro  Rogoredo – LATO ANAS  (Rogoredo is a metro station of the metro line M3) or from the metro San Donato (San Donato is a metro station of the metro line M1).

  • Trains

To get to Milan from Rome or vice versa it is possible to use trains as well. It is the most rapid but at the same time the most expensive way to travel between two cities.  There are 38 trains each day that connect Roma Termini and Milano Centrale. Average jouney time is 3 hours. The cost is from 39, 90 EUR. You can check the timetable on the official website of Trentitalia.

 is the main railway station of the capital and the first in Italy for passenger flow. It is situated in Piazza dei Cinquecento and owes its name to the nearby Terme di Diocleziano (Baths of Diocletian).

Roma Termini station offers services and links designed for tourists and Roman citizens: the station is now the central hub of the north-south link of Italy and of the transport in the city.

The to/from Roma Termini connections include transportation for each category: high speed, Eurostar, Intercity, national, international and regional trains, trolleybuses, trams, buses and subway.

The platform 24 is used for train Leonardo Express, direct line to Fiumicino airport leaving every 30 minutes. Termini station is also connected to Fiumicino Airport via shuttle bus service.

From Termini you can reach Ciampino airport via shuttle bus from Termini or using a regional railway line to the station of Ciampino and then an Atral shuttle bus to the airport.

Termini station is also the meeting point of all the city’s subway lines: Line A (Anagnina – Battistini), Line B (Laurentina – Rebibbia) and Line B1 (Laurentina – Conca d’Oro / Jonio soon). By subway from Termini you can easily reach destinations such as the Colosseum, the Vatican and Piazza di Spagna.

The station offers several bus lines to Rome and province:
ATAC for travelling in Rome (find your bus route);
COTRAL for travelling in province and to the airports;
ATRAL for travelling to Ciampino airport;
FASHION BUS  bus shuttle to Valmontone Outlet Village (leaving only at 10 a.m. and only on Saturdays, Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays);
– 110 OPEN bus for the city tour.

To reach the Rainbow Magicland theme park you get to Valmontone station by train and then continue with the free shuttle bus.

For Ciampino and Fiumicino airports or other tourist destinations, like Zoomarine, you can use other transport companies like Terravision or TAM Bus.
