Sardinia: how to reach it?

There are two ways to reach Sardinia from Italy (that is from Italian continent): by ferries and by plains.

Ferries are active the whole year. During the summer there are a lot of passengers that is why it is highly recommended to book ferry tickets in advance. The average journey time is 10 hours. Nowadays there are several ferries that reach Sardegna in 6 hours. Most ferries leave late at night. In Sardinia there are several ports where arrive ferries: Cagliari, Porto Torres, OlbiaGolfo d’Aranci and Arbatax.  In the Italian continent ferries leave to Sardinia mainly from Genua, Civitavecchia, Livorno, Naples and Fiumicino.

If you want to take with you animals or additional equipment such as cars, bicycles, motorbikes, it will cost additional amount of money.

1. Civitavecchia – Cagliari

Shipping company Tirrenia provides this connection daily. On June 2016 ferries leave Civitavecchia at night: at 20.00 and at 19.00. Average journey time is 12 hours. From Cagliari ferries leave at the evening as well: at 20.00 and at 19.00.

2. Civitavecchia -Olbia

Shipping company  Tirrenia provides daily connections between Civitavecchia and Olbia. Average journey time is 8 hours. There are also ferries that with a crossing duration of 5 h and 30 min.

On June 2016 the ferries leave from Civitavecchia 3 times a day: at 09:00 a.m., 21:30 and at  22:30. From Olbia to Civitavecchia ferries leave at 13.00 and at  22.30.

Here is the timetable from-to Civitavecchia. This is valid from 11.05.2016 till 08.07 2016.
Cotral: Civitavecchia – Roma

From Civitavecchia buses leave from bus terminal Dep.Cotral/Braccianese, from bus stops Ospedale S.Paolo and Porta Tarquinia. During work days buses to Rome from Dep.Cotral/Braccianese levae evry 30 min, during holidays every hour. From Porta Tarquinia to Rome buses leave once a day at  14:10, that passes after the bus stop Ospedale S.Paolo.Note: those who arrive in Largo della Pace the most closest bus stop is  Porta Tarquinia.

In Rome the bus station is Cornelia (near the same named metro station of  line A).

One way ticket costs 3.90 EURO from Porta Tarquinia and  4,50 EURO from Dep.Cotral/Braccianese.

There is also a possibility to take  a train. From the train station of  Civitavecchia/ital. Stazione Ferroviaria di Civitavecchia   leave reagional, inter city and freccia bianca trains. They arrive at Roma Termini. The average journey time is an hour and 15 min.
